ニュージーランドで生まれ。

現在はオーストラリアに住むLocust Jonesの作品は、旅先や世界の現在における政治問題への密接な関心に基づいています。

紙に描かれる作品を通じて、現代の政治問題に挑み、深く掘り下げています。

彼の作風である解説スタイルは、メディア、新聞、テレビ、インターネットからのイメージを散りばめながら、世界の現在の政治情勢についての個人的な経験を交えつつ、壮大な規模の問題に正面から取り組んでいると言えます。

 

生き生きとした表現力豊かなエネルギーで、大判パノラマ紙や張り子の地球儀にテキストベースのイメージや表現豊かな顔やジェスチャーが機械や建築構造と融合しながら描かれます。

 

 

Locust Jonesはニュージーランドやオーストラリアでの展示のほか、ニューヨーク、ベルリン、デュッセルドルフ、ソウル、レバノンのベイルートで個展を開催しています。また、ベイルート、ソウル、ヨハネスブルグ、ニューヨーク、ロサンゼルス、そして日本の京都でアーティストの滞在プログラムに参加してきました。

2009年にはHazelhurst works on paper awardを受賞し、2014年にはThe New Zealand National Art Awardを受賞しました。

 

ニュージーランドとオーストラリアの多くの公共施設やプライベートコレクションとして彼の作品は所蔵されています。Blake Prizeファイナリスト（2020年）、Dobell Drawing Prizeファイナリスト（2019年）、Wynne Prize Exhibitionファイナリスト、ニューサウスウェールズ州立美術館（2016年）、Australia Council for the Arts New Work 助成金（2014年）、18th Street Art Centre Residency, カリフォルニア州サンタモニカ（2014年）、そしてニュージーランドの国立現代美術賞受賞者（2010年）を受賞。

Born in New Zealand and now living in Australia, Locust Jones' works have been primarily influenced by his travels and close attention and concern to current world political issues. Through his works on paper, Jones challenges and delves into issues of contemporary politics. His style of commentary can be said to tackle the big picture head on, addressing issues of epic proportions, interspersing imagery from the media, newspapers, television and the internet, as well as personal experiences of current political situations in the world.

 

With an animated and expressive energy he compulsively draws in ink, arranging on large-scale panoramic sheets of paper and in universal proportions his papiermâché globes, text-based imagery, expressive, scrawled drawings of faces and gestures morph with machines and built structures.

 

Locust Jones exhibits throughout New Zealand and Australia, and has had solo exhibitions in New York, Berlin, Dusseldorf , Seoul and Beirut, Lebanon. He has participated in artist's residencies in Beirut, Seoul, Johannesburg, New York, Los Angeles, and Kyoto, Japan. He is the winner of the Hazelhurst works on paper award in 2009, The New Zealand National Art Award, 2014.

 

He has works held in numerous public and private collections throughout New Zealand and Australia. Jones has been awarded the Blake Prize Finalist (2020), Dobell Drawing Prize Finalist (2019), Wynne Prize Exhibition Finalist, Art Gallery of NSW (2016), Australia Council for the Arts New Work Grant (2014), 18th Street Art Centre Residency, Santa Monica CA (2014), and the National Contemporary Art Award Winner, New Zealand (2010).
