DWELLING KYOTO

An interdisciplinary collaboration in art & natural sciences

DWELLING KYOTO explores the contemporary and historical landscape of Kyoto, the architecture, nature and wildlife.

Glynn and Dalmazzo were awarded a two-month art and nature residency at Art Cottage No. 2 by the Geneto Art Foundation in Kyoto. During this time, they immersed themselves into the culture and landscape: to walk, to view, to listen, to smell, to feel and to plunge into the environment. They met with leaders and experts from cultural and scientific institutions in Kyoto. 

Glynn has created new artworks inspired by this amazing city and the people and nature in it. 

Glynn and Dalmazzo would like to profusely thank all of the incredibly generous people,institutions and organisations that have greatly assisted them during their time here.

Anna Glynn Artist Statement

These works are part of a series exploring Kyoto, the history, nature and wildlife. At its core the dreamlike images contemplate and considers the layers of our humancentric landscape in comparison to a place of nature, where forests grew, flowers bloomed, animals roamed andbirds sang. 

Glynn includes gateways and the architecture of diaphanous buildings as portals to the past to journey back in time to what may have previously been on these sites. She playfully includes the traditional Japanese cloud pruned tree or Niwaki and has them silhouetted against the dramatic Kyoto skies.

Glynn uses her multilayered contemporary photographs of Kyoto to construct digital collages into visually poetic works investigating the connection between humans, history, nature, land, place, physical and ephemeral. Glynn has been recognised with numerous awards including the 2023 International Women's Day Arts Award and her work is held in esteemed public and private collections including: Australian Parliament House Art Collection, Canberra; National Museum of Australia Collection. She has an active international art practice of projects and exhibitions.

オーストラリア人アーティスト アンナ・グリン & 生物学者 ピーター・ダルマッツォによる芸術と自然科学の学術的コラボレーションドウェリング京都 は、京都の現代および歴史的な風景、建築、自然、野生動物を探求するプロジェクトです。

グリンとダルマッツォは、GENETO ART FOUNDATIONより京都のart cottage no.2における2か月間のレジデンスに選ばれました。

アーティスト ステートメント

これらの作品は、京都の歴史、自然、野生動物を探求するシリーズの一部です。夢のようなイメージの芯には、

自然が繁茂し、花が咲き、動物が自由に歩き回り、鳥がさえずる場所と、私たち人間中心の風景との層を比較し、考察する

要素が込められています。グリンは、過去にこの場所に存在していたかもしれない風景への旅として、透ける建物の門や

建築を作品に取り入れています。

また、伝統的な日本の雲形剪定木(庭木)を京都の空にシルエットとして配し遊び心を加えています。彼女は、

京都の多層的な現代写真を用いてデジタルコラージュを作り、人間、歴史、自然、土地、場所、

物質的および非物質的な繋がりを視覚的に詩的な作品として探求しています。グリンは、2023年国際女性デーアート賞を

含む数多くの賞を受賞しており、彼女の作品は、オーストラリア国会議事堂アートコレクション(キャンベラ)、

オーストラリア国立博物館コレクションなどの名高いパブリックおよびプライベートコレクションに収蔵されています。

彼女は国際的なプロジェクトと展覧会を通じて、活発なアート活動を行っています。
